About The Programme

The ‘Oxford University Summer Series’ programme is a comprehensive and academically rigorous experience for Indian students who are seeking intellectual enrichment and personal growth. Rooted in the esteemed traditions of Oxford University, the programme combines academic excellence with immersive experiences, allowing participants to delve deep into their chosen major and minor subjects.

Open to students in Classes 9 through 12, this programme provides a unique opportunity for young minds to engage in intellectually stimulating seminars taught by distinguished faculty and industry professionals. With a diverse array of 25 subjects spanning business, arts, and science fields, students embark on a journey of experiential learning through lectures, small group projects, and hands-on activities. By participating in this dynamic blend of academic rigour and experiential education, participants emerge empowered, inspired, and equipped to navigate the challenges of higher education and beyond.

The programme takes place at several of Oxford’s constituent colleges. Each day features a combination of seminars, hands-on activities and workshops, lab time, guest speakers, community meeting, and unstructured time for socialising, exploration, and reflection.

Students select both a major and a minor seminar, delving deeply into their academic interests. Major seminars convene six days a week for three hours, primarily at one’s own residential college, while minor seminars happen three days a week for two hours, often at another college, providing students with a holistic experience of Oxford’s academic life.

Each session commences with classroom dialogues framing seminar concepts and highlighting pivotal issues. Beyond the confines of the classroom, students extend their learning through site visits, consultations with experts, and guest lectures by distinguished academics and renowned scholars.

Seminar groups may opt for day trips and fieldwork at nearby sites, such as the Oxford University Museum of Natural History, Pitt Rivers Museum, Bodleian Library, historical landmarks, and venues hosting guest experts. During weekends, students, accompanied either by their seminar groups or through staff-led excursions, have the opportunity to explore destinations outside Oxford. They may visit Blenheim Palace, the birthplace of Winston Churchill, and explore its expansive parks and gardens, or delve deeper into the study of War & World History through visits to London’s renowned museums.

Alternatively, students can experience London while paying homage to its role in inspiring Charles Dickens. A journey to Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace and final resting place of William Shakespeare, offers the chance to catch a performance at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.

Enriching Experiences Beyond Seminars: The experience does not stop with seminars. Students can immerse themselves in elective lectures and workshops facilitated by seasoned instructors and guests, uncovering new interests and topics. They can sketch botanical wonders amidst the tranquil setting of the Botanical Gardens or unravel the mysteries of ‘Oxford’s Secret Places’ on an enthralling walking tour guided by Professor Basker.

Participants get to learn from the finest teachers, scholars, guest lecturers and industry professionals each summer. They have earned awards for excellence in the arts and sciences, in scholarship and in teaching, and bring unparalleled energy and passion for their subjects to the classroom.
